Initial letter R is capitalized. The letter is framed within a double-lined square. The letter is white on a black background, the background is studded with white dots. The letter is composed of one vertical line on the left of the page with a flared base. A line extends right from the top of the vertical line and curves back inwards to the middle of the vertical line. From the lower portion of this loop extends a diagonal line that swoops to the bottom right corner of the page. There are leaves, flowers, and vines behind the initial letter and spread out throughout the innermost box of the square.

The letter is composed of one line which starts in the top middle of the page, curves up and to the left, down and to the right, and then down and back up to the left. A grinning grotesque face is positioned facing frontally under the upper curve of the S. The figure’s lower half is made of twisting vines and foliage. There are leaves, flowers, and vines behind the initial letter and spread out throughout the innermost box of the square.

An account of the resource
Initial letter T is capitalized. The letter is framed within a double-lined square. The letter is white on a black background, the background is studded with white dots. The letter is composed of one horizontal and one vertical line. The vertical line is centred on the page and is flared at the bottom. The horizontal line rests centred atop the vertical line. It is flared on both ends but the right side is flared on the diagonal. A grotesque human figure stands in profile to the left of the vertical line with their right arm reaching out towards the letter. The figure has long ears and a naked torso; their lower half is covered by draperies and foliage. There are leaves, flowers, and vines behind the initial letter and spread out throughout the innermost box of the rectangle.

An account of the resource
The freestanding ornament is centred on the page. A butterfly with wide outspread wings emerges from a flaming chrysalis. The butterfly’s dark wings are decorated with small black and white hearts, stars, and crescent moons. The oval-shaped body of the butterfly is white. Two antennas protrude from the top of the butterfly’s body. The left wing of the butterfly is mostly covered by the flames emerging from the base of the chrysalis. The flames move upwards and spiral, curling towards the left. The artist's initials, “CR,” are presented in small capital letters contained in a black frame, positioned underneath the ornament.

The initial letter “P” is capitalized and positioned in the upper right corner of the square pictorial ornament. Beneath the initial letter “P” is a small butterfly with open wings. In the foreground, a naked woman with long straight hair stands in three-quarter profile, facing left. The woman is holding an artist’s palette with her left hand. Her right hand, which extends in a diagonal up to the top left corner, holds a small paint brush. It is illuminated and shines diagonal rays of light down throughout the background of the ornament. An arc of light is also depicted starting from the bottom left corner of the ornament moving towards the initial letter “P” in the upper right corner. Beneath the woman there are small poppies (blooms and pods) lining the base and lower right side of the ornament. The initials “CR” are in black capitals on a white rectangle in the bottom left corner.

The initial word “Batilda” is capitalized and is positioned within the top right corner of the pictorial ornament, which is to the left of the letterpress, extending down the first paragraph. The ornament depicts the inside of a wooden cottage. The word “Batilda” appears on a wooden sign or carved carrtouche on a supporting beam at the left of the cabin. The letter “B” is the largest letter, and the rest of the word follows in three lines as such: “BATI,” “LD,” “A.” Dropping down from the sign, on the outside of the supporting beam, is a bunch of garlic buds. There are four figures in the cabin. In the left background, one figure (male?) appears to be entering the cottage through the open door. In the right foreground, a woman with a patterned hooded cloak is sitting on a chair with her hands in her lap. She is looking downwards towards the flaming hearth, which is along the right wall of the cabin. Only her right-side profile is visible, and she appears to be holding a cloth up to her face. Behind her in the cottage are two female figures, one facing forward, the other in profile facing right; both have naked torsos and loosely wrapped lower bodies. The young woman facing right is in the extreme left foreground of the ornament, leaning forwards on a chair, and bending her right leg. Only her right profile is visible. She has long hair, which is swept to the side. A basket of fruits is on the floor below her bent leg, which rests on the chair. Behind her, in the middle ground, is a young woman facing forward; only the her arm and the top-half of face is visible. Above the hearth at right there is a shelf with a small white oil pot. A patterned ribbon is hung across the door of the cabin. The roof of the cabin slopes downwards to the right, and its foundation of wooden blocks is exposed. On the wooden block in the top left corner, the letters “C.R.” are marked in capital letters. Five doves are on the roof of the cottage; two are in flight. Positioned just outside the frame of the cottage that marks the boundary of the ornament is a gathering of branches/wooden sticks.
