An angel or winged figure stands facing forwards with his head turned in right profile. He has a dark face, and his skin or garment appears to be dark and patterned with white hearts or scales. The angel has long hair which wisps across his forehead, one small horn protruding from his head, and two large wings of dark feathers at each side of his body. He is wearing a strap across his upper chest which knots above his left hip, and a belt of circular shaped fabric. The angel’s left arm is tucked slightly behind his body and in his left hand; he is holding a white bow, which appears out from behind his right leg. His left arm is extended and is positioned downwards, diagonally across his upper body. His left hand is placed on the edge of an arrow as if he is about to draw it. The tip of the arrow is flaming and pointed downwards towards the bottom right region of the ornament. The angel appears to be standing or kneeling on a pedestal, pillar, or on the edge of a structure. His left leg is not visible, and his right leg appears to be kneeling. His bare foot is tucked behind his right leg. At the base of the pedestal is a flaming severed head oriented upside-down as if it is falling. Flames engulf the head and extend upwards, surrounding the pedestal and reaching the upper right corner of the ornament. At the top of the ornament there appears to be a banner or cartouche oriented behind the angel’s head engraved with an inverted question mark. At the bottom of the ornament in the extreme left, the artist's initials “CR” are engraved in caps in a small white box with a single black-lined border. A human-like, grotesque head is centred in the ornament. Six curved ribbons extend out from the top of the head, each ending in a spiral, giving the appearance of hair. An arm stretches straight out from either side of the head, with the hands grasping the ornamental terminus. Two large knots are in the top left and top right corners. A geometric pattern made of straight lines continues underneath and around the head. These lines extend up on either side of the ornament, and the hands hold on to the form they create. While both her head and body are facing the reader, her eyes are turned slightly to the upper-left corner of the page. She has a neutral expression on her face. Her arms are stretched out toward the edges of the border, with her hands turned upward. A fish on each side of the ornament overlaps one of the figure's arms. The fish on the left is jumping upward to the left, while the one on the right is jumping downward to the left. A triple black-line interlaced ribbon wraps around the figure's waist, extending to roughly the same length as her arms; the inner-most section of the ribbon is filled in with black ink, and gives the appearance of the figure being in water, with the fish jumping in and out of the waves. Her hair is drawn in wavy lines and extends out to either side, not quite reaching the length of her arms nor the water. The innermost sections of her hair are filled with black ink. The ornament depicts the inside of a wooden cottage. The word “Batilda” appears on a wooden sign or carved carrtouche on a supporting beam at the left of the cabin. The letter “B” is the largest letter, and the rest of the word follows in three lines as such: “BATI,” “LD,” “A.” Dropping down from the sign, on the outside of the supporting beam, is a bunch of garlic buds. There are four figures in the cabin. In the left background, one figure (male?) appears to be entering the cottage through the open door. In the right foreground, a woman with a patterned hooded cloak is sitting on a chair with her hands in her lap. She is looking downwards towards the flaming hearth, which is along the right wall of the cabin. Only her right-side profile is visible, and she appears to be holding a cloth up to her face. Behind her in the cottage are two female figures, one facing forward, the other in profile facing right; both have naked torsos and loosely wrapped lower bodies. The young woman facing right is in the extreme left foreground of the ornament, leaning forwards on a chair, and bending her right leg. Only her right profile is visible. She has long hair, which is swept to the side. A basket of fruits is on the floor below her bent leg, which rests on the chair. Behind her, in the middle ground, is a young woman facing forward; only the her arm and the top-half of face is visible. Above the hearth at right there is a shelf with a small white oil pot. A patterned ribbon is hung across the door of the cabin. The roof of the cabin slopes downwards to the right, and its foundation of wooden blocks is exposed. On the wooden block in the top left corner, the letters “C.R.” are marked in capital letters. Five doves are on the roof of the cottage; two are in flight. Positioned just outside the frame of the cottage that marks the boundary of the ornament is a gathering of branches/wooden sticks.
